Some questions to the developers of “Stentec

On your homepage you announced some

Future developments
• Anchoring
• Training course
• Powerboat with 2 outboard engines (inc. powertrim)
• Schip Designer inc. Style Editor, for creating your own boats
• Scenery Designer version 2, inc. animated objects (for traffic, lighthouses, flashing lights). Ideal for creating a harbor approach for training purposes. Also to be used for Sail Simulator 4.2.
• Improved simulation
• Improved breaking waves
Now I have some questions

Motorboat Simulator

Improved simulation – What should this tell to us, less recourses or something like that?

Ship Designer incl. Style Editor

Will this be a stand alone program or included in MBS or Scenery Designer?
Will it be possible to create complete new ships or is it only an editor?
And will this cause additional costs or will it be free?

Scenery Designer Toolkit

Scenery Designer version 2, inc. animated objects (for traffic, lighthouses, flashing lights). Ideal for creating a harbor approach for training purposes. Also to be used for Sail Simulator 4.2.

- Sounds good, but are there other improvements or is this all?
- What about the possibility to insert a grid in the DEM-Builder ( makes it easier to build from scratch ).
- And how do you think about inserting other formats in the sceneries ( like 3DS- and OBJ-files )?
- No question about cost .

3D Object Editor

What about the further development of the “3D Object Editor“?.
The latest release is from November 2002 ( version 1.0 Beta 4 ).
Will it be possible in future not only to edit, but also to model?

I think the main problem of MBS is that the sceneries are to naked, so somehow we have to dress them and I think i’m not the only one who sees it this way.

Best regards

Jan I received a reply today from Stentec, regarding my queries that were similar to yours. This was not just a general reply regarding possible future developments, but specific detailed answers to specific questions, regarding development of different aspects of the m/b and sail sim, etc.

The situation does look brighter, and feel more confident myself now, that there will be enough in the simulations to keep my interet in the short term and certainly in the longer term.

Leave it at that for now.
