Hi it should run OK in Vista.
Sail sim is not very good but no problems with Vista now.

Ses sailsim forum threads if you don't have the missing file.
quote "
After installing Sail Simulator under Windows Vista and starting the program, an error message pops up saying the file D3DRM.dll could not be found. This file is actually part of DirectX7 to DirectX9 which is used by Sail Simulator. Under Windows Vista (which uses DirectX10) this file no longer exists.

You can copy the file from an existing Windows XP installation (you can find it in the system32 folder of the windows folder) or download the file from the internet, for example from dlldump: http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-fil ... nload.html

After downloading, copy the file to the folder where Sail Simulator is installed (by default this is: c:\program files\stentec\sail simulator 4.0\sail40) and Sail Simulator should now start normally." end quote

quote my post This is detailed in other thread but d3drm.dll file needed and not in Vista and download or copy from xp.

When placed in sailsim installation folder sailsim would not load at all.
Tried it in the Vista windows folder and the sailsim loaded but only tested default route so far but seem OK end quote

Once you get it running frame rates are about 2 to 3 times better than sail sim on my computer.
Runs with no problems with Vista whereas sailsim usually locks up and no longer use it.

Also you may need to run it as administrator.

Barry,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have done as you suggest and copied the D3DRM.dll into the motorboat sim installation folder. This allowed me to run motor boat sim. So now I can run the application I can click the start new button then select a situation. It then goes through the loading scenes process and then crashs with the error above. I have tried running the application as administrator with no luck. I have even tried disabling user control. but I still get the same error. I don't know if it could be the situation files? I am a complete newbe to Motor boat sim and would love to get it working.

Hi

Try copying and pasting the D3DRM.dll file into windows own folder, as well as or instead of just into the motorboat folder as that where I have mine.
There is a sticky thread I think on the sailsim forum that I posted about it.

copied it below
""This is detailed in other thread but d3drm.dll file needed and not in Vista and download or copy from xp.

When placed in sailsim installation folder sailsim would not load at all.
Tried it in the Vista windows folder and the sailsim loaded but only tested default route so far but seem OK

Also this is just what I did on my new computer with VISTA.
What you try is definitely at your own risk! ""

I have also disabled user control and never use it, as impossible to leave it enabled if making content etc as forever clicking OK.
Perhaps make compatible to windows 2000/ME.
Right click on icon.
Just had a look but left mine mine set for vIsta

Perhaps set your video card to let the program decide the settings?

Maybe Stentec will post with some ideas?

You may also get issues with D3DX81ab.dll
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx81ab
I put both files in the program directory and it started working.

A motorboat, speedboat, or powerboat is a boat which is powered by an engine. Some motorboats are fitted with inboard engines, others have an outboard motor installed on the rear, containing the internal combustion engine, the gearbox and the propeller in one portable unit.
